About
Nikolai Kuznetsov was a Soviet admiral who played a crucial role during World War II. Born into a peasant family, he joined the navy in 1919 and rose through the ranks. Appointed People's Commissar of the Navy in 1939, he put the fleet on alert just before the German invasion, ensuring unprecedented preparedness. He directed naval operations during the defenses of Odessa, Sevastopol, and Leningrad. Falling into political disgrace, he was demoted twice, but was posthumously rehabilitated in 1988.
