Neil Patrick Harris is an American actor born on June 15, 1973, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He rose to fame as the teenage doctor in the series Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989–1993), earning a Golden Globe nomination. He then played Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014), receiving multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. In 2014, he won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for Hedwig and the Angry Inch. He has hosted the Tony Awards several times, winning five Emmy Awards, and hosted the 87th Academy Awards in 2015, becoming the first openly gay man to do so. He also portrayed Count Olaf in the Netflix series A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017–2019) and authored the middle-grade book series The Magic Misfits.
