Mitt Romney, born March 12, 1947 in Detroit, is an American politician. Son of George Romney, he pursued a career in consulting and private equity before leading the organizing committee for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Republican governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007, he signed a universal health care law. Republican nominee for president in 2012, he was defeated by Barack Obama. Senator from Utah from 2019 to 2025, he is the only senator in history to vote to convict a president from his own party during the first impeachment trial of Donald Trump.
