About
Mirra Alfassa, born in Paris in 1878, is a French spiritual figure. After studying art, she became interested in occultism and met Sri Aurobindo in 1914 in Pondicherry, where she settled permanently in 1920. In 1926, she took spiritual and material charge of the Ashram, becoming known as 'The Mother.' With Sri Aurobindo, she developed Integral Yoga. She founded a school in 1943, which became the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education, and in 1968, the experimental township of Auroville. She died in 1973.
