About
Mircea Cărtărescu is a Romanian writer born in Bucharest in 1956. A poet, novelist, essayist, and literary critic, he graduated from the Faculty of Letters at the University of Bucharest in 1980 and earned a PhD there in 1999. He teaches Romanian literary history at the same university. He began with poetry in 'Faruri, vitrine, fotografii' (1980), then turned to prose with major works such as 'Nostalgia' (1993), the 'Orbitor' trilogy (1996-2007), 'Solenoid' (2015), and 'Theodoros' (2022). His work, translated into more than 25 languages, has received numerous international awards, including the Dublin Literary Award (2024) and the FIL Literary Award (2022).
