About

Miguel de Cervantes, baptized on October 9, 1547, in Alcalá de Henares, is a major figure of Spanish literature. A soldier, he fought at Lepanto (1571) and endured five years of captivity in Algiers. His novel Don Quixote (1605-1615) is considered one of the masterpieces of world literature. He also wrote Exemplary Novels (1613) and other works. He died in Madrid in 1616, leaving a lasting influence on the modern novel.
