About
Michel Verne, the only son of Jules Verne, was born in Paris in 1861. After a turbulent youth, he became a writer and editor. Upon his father's death in 1905, he oversaw the publication of posthumous manuscripts, often rewriting them extensively or even composing them entirely, as with L'Agence Thompson and Co. and The Lighthouse at the End of the World. He also wrote original works, including the short story An Express of the Future (1888) and In the Year 2889 (1889), which anticipated the videophone. He was also active in cinema, directing adaptations of his father's novels. His fame remains tied to the controversy over his involvement in the later Verne novels.
