About
Michel Onfray, born in 1959 in Argentan, is a French philosopher. With a PhD in philosophy (1986), he taught in secondary schools in Caen from 1983 to 2002, then founded the Université Populaire de Caen, which he led until 2018. A self-described hedonist, atheist and materialist, he is the author of a prolific body of work, including the international bestseller Traité d'athéologie (2005) and the series Contre-histoire de la philosophie (2006-2018).
