About
Michel Galabru, born in 1922 in Safi (Morocco) and died in 2016 in Paris, was a French actor. Trained at the Conservatoire national d'art dramatique, he was a member of the Comédie-Française before turning to cinema. Revealed in La Guerre des boutons (1962), he became popular with the Gendarme de Saint-Tropez series (1964-1982) and the La Cage aux folles trilogy (1978-1985). He won the César for Best Actor in 1977 for Le Juge et l'Assassin. Appearing in over 200 films, he worked with directors such as Bertrand Tavernier, Bertrand Blier, Costa-Gavras, Luc Besson, Jean-Luc Godard, and Claude Berri. He also directed the Théâtre Montmartre-Galabru in Paris.
