About

Maksimilian Voloshin (1877-1932) was a Russian Symbolist poet, watercolorist, and art critic. Born in Kiev, he studied law in Moscow before being expelled for radical student activities. He continued his studies in Paris, attending courses at the Sorbonne and the Louvre. His first collection, Stikhotvoreniya 1900–1910, appeared in 1910. He was also known for his watercolors of Crimean landscapes and for hosting artists in his home in Koktebel, which became a free creative space. His work, long censored in the USSR, was rediscovered from 1977 onward.
