Martina Navratilova, born October 18, 1956, in Prague, is a Czech-American tennis player. She dominated women's tennis in the 1970s and 1980s, winning 18 Grand Slam singles titles, including a record 9 at Wimbledon. She also won 31 Grand Slam women's doubles titles and 10 mixed doubles titles, bringing her total to 59 major titles. She spent 332 weeks at No. 1 in the world rankings and holds the Open Era records for most singles titles (167) and doubles titles (177). In 1983, she posted an 86–1 win-loss record, the best single-season performance in history. She revolutionized women's tennis through her professional approach to training and nutrition. Navratilova came out publicly in 1981 and became a prominent LGBTQ rights advocate.
