Mario Vargas Llosa (1936-2025) was a Peruvian writer, naturalized Spanish, considered one of the greatest novelists in the Spanish language. A central figure of the Latin American Boom of the 1960s-1970s, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2010. His work explores structures of power and individual resistance, with novels such as The Time of the Hero, The Green House, and Conversation in the Cathedral. He also ran for the presidency of Peru in 1990 and was elected to the Académie française in 2021.
