About
Maria Ressa is a Filipino journalist born in 1963 in Manila. After studying at Princeton, she worked as a correspondent for CNN in Southeast Asia, becoming bureau chief in Manila and then Jakarta. In 2012, she co-founded Rappler, a digital investigative platform. A critic of President Duterte, she was prosecuted for cyber-libel in 2020. In 2021, she received the Nobel Peace Prize for her defense of freedom of expression. She is also a professor at Columbia University and vice-chair of the UN Internet Governance Forum Leadership Panel.
