Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, born on December 12, 1948, in Lisbon, is a Portuguese jurist and politician. A professor of constitutional law at the University of Lisbon, he was a member of the Constituent Assembly (1975-1976), Secretary of State, and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs in the 1980s. A founding member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), he chaired it from 1996 to 1999. A widely followed political commentator, he was elected President of the Republic in 2016 and re-elected in 2021.
