About

Maltbie Davenport Babcock (1858-1901) was an American Presbyterian clergyman, poet, and hymn writer. Born in Syracuse, New York, he studied at Syracuse University and Auburn Theological Seminary. He served as pastor in Lockport, then at Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church in Baltimore and at Brick Presbyterian Church in New York City. He is best known for his hymn 'This Is My Father's World,' published posthumously in 1901. He died in Naples, Italy, from Mediterranean fever contracted during a trip to the Holy Land.
