About

Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on November 30, 1874, in Clifton (now New London), Prince Edward Island, Canada. After her mother's death, she was raised by her maternal grandparents in Cavendish. She earned a teaching license from Prince of Wales College and taught at several island schools. In 1908, she published her most famous novel, Anne of Green Gables, which became an immediate international bestseller. She wrote twenty novels, including the eight-book Anne series, the Emily trilogy, The Blue Castle, Jane of Lantern Hill, Pat of Silver Bush, and The Story Girl, as well as over 500 short stories and 500 poems. In 1911, she married Reverend Ewan Macdonald and moved to Ontario.
