About
Jenny Laura Marx, born in Brussels in 1845, was the second daughter of Karl Marx and Jenny von Westphalen. Secretary to her father from 1864 to 1868, she married French socialist Paul Lafargue in 1868. She translated major works by Marx and Engels into French, including the Communist Manifesto (1895) and A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy (1909). Active in the First International, she supported the Paris Commune and helped found the Second International. She died with her husband in 1911.
