Kiran Desai is an Indian novelist born in New Delhi. Daughter of novelist Anita Desai, she spent her childhood in India before moving to England and then the United States. A graduate of Bennington College and holding an MFA from Columbia University, she published her first novel, Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard, in 1998. Her second novel, The Inheritance of Loss, won the Man Booker Prize in 2006, making her the youngest woman to receive the prize at that time. Her work explores themes of postcolonialism, migration, and globalization.
