About
Kazimierz Ajdukiewicz (1890-1963) was a Polish philosopher, logician, and semanticist, a leading figure of the Lwów-Warsaw School. He earned his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Lwów (1912) and studied in Göttingen under Husserl and Hilbert. He developed the first deductive theory of logic based on syntax (1920) and originated categorial grammar, a foundational framework in formal linguistics. In the 1930s, he formulated radical conventionalism, which he abandoned after 1945 in favor of radical empiricism. He held professorships in Warsaw, Lwów, and Poznań, and founded the journal Studia Logica in 1953. Major works include 'Z metodologii nauk dedukcyjnych' (1921) and 'Zagadnienia i kierunki filozofii' (1949).
