About
Kamel Daoud is a writer and journalist born in Mesra, Algeria, in 1970. He studied French literature at the University of Oran and began his journalism career in 1994 at Le Quotidien d'Oran, where he wrote a popular column. He served as editor-in-chief of that newspaper for eight years. His first novel, Meursault, contre-enquête, a response to Camus's L'Étranger, won several prizes, including the Goncourt du premier roman. He received the Prix Goncourt in 2024 for his novel Houris. He also contributes to Le Point and La Repubblica.
