About

Jules Verne (1828-1905) was a French writer, regarded along with H. G. Wells as one of the fathers of science fiction. Born in Nantes, he studied law in Paris before turning to literature. In 1862, he met publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel, who published his first success, Five Weeks in a Balloon (1863). Together they created the Voyages Extraordinaires series, comprising 62 novels and 18 short stories, including Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas (1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873). Verne is known for adventure tales blending scientific progress and exploration. He is one of the world's most translated authors.
