Johnny Carson, born John William Carson on October 23, 1925, in Corning, Iowa, and died January 23, 2005, in West Hollywood, California, was an American television host and comedian. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he earned a degree from the University of Nebraska in 1949. He became famous hosting The Tonight Show on NBC for 30 years, from 1962 to 1992. His show left a lasting mark on television history, attracting millions of viewers. He received numerous awards, including six Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and a Kennedy Center Honor. He also hosted the Academy Awards five times.
