Jim Morrison, born James Douglas Morrison on December 8, 1943, in Melbourne, Florida, and died on July 3, 1971, in Paris, was the lead vocalist and primary lyricist of the rock band The Doors. He co-founded the band in 1965 with keyboardist Ray Manzarek. With The Doors, he recorded six studio albums between 1967 and 1971, including the self-titled debut and L.A. Woman. Known for his improvised spoken-word poetry on stage and his charisma, he was nicknamed the 'Lizard King.' He published a poetry collection, The Lords and the New Creatures, in 1970. Morrison was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 with The Doors and posthumously received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
