Jerome K. Jerome, born Jerome Clapp Jerome in 1859 in Walsall, was an English humorous writer. After early careers as a railway clerk, actor, and journalist, he achieved success with humorous essays and especially his comic novel 'Three Men in a Boat' (1889), which has never been out of print. He co-founded and edited the magazine 'The Idler', publishing authors such as Mark Twain and Conan Doyle. He also wrote plays, including 'The Passing of the Third Floor Back' (1908). During World War I, he served as an ambulance driver in the French Army. He died in 1927.
