About
Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian (1755-1794) was a French writer, best known for his fables, published posthumously in 1802. He also authored pastoral novels such as Galatée (1783) and Estelle (1788), as well as plays. Elected to the Académie française in 1788, he was imprisoned during the Revolution and died shortly after his release. He is credited with the song 'Plaisir d'amour' and several enduring proverbs.
