About
Jean-Philippe Toussaint, born on November 29, 1957 in Brussels, is a Belgian novelist, photographer and filmmaker writing in French. A graduate of Sciences Po Paris and holding a master's degree in history, he taught in Algeria before publishing his first novel, The Bathroom, in 1985. His minimalist style associates him with the renewal of the French novel. He is notably the author of the Marie cycle, which earned him the Prix Médicis and the Prix Décembre. A filmmaker of several features, he also exhibited at the Louvre in 2012. His works are translated into more than twenty languages.
