About
Jean Moréas, born Ioannis Papadiamantópoulos, was a Greek poet who settled in Paris around 1879. He published his first French-language collection, Les Syrtes, in 1884. In 1886, he authored the Manifesto of Symbolism in Le Figaro, defining the movement. He later founded the Roman School, advocating a return to classical Greco-Latin forms. His major work, Les Stances, began appearing in 1899. He died in Saint-Mandé in 1910.
