Jean-Luc Mélenchon is a French politician born on August 19, 1951, in Tangier, Morocco. He graduated in philosophy and modern literature from the University of Franche-Comté and worked as a teacher and journalist before entering politics. A member of the Socialist Party, he was elected senator for Essonne in 1986, becoming the youngest senator in France, and served until 2010. He was Minister Delegate for Vocational Education from 2000 to 2002. In 2008, he left the PS and co-founded the Left Party, then founded La France Insoumise in 2016. He was a Member of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2017 and a deputy for Bouches-du-Rhône from 2017 to 2022.
