About
Jean-Jacques Beineix (1946-2022) was a French director, screenwriter, and producer, a leading figure of the 'cinema du look' alongside Luc Besson and Leos Carax. After studying medicine and earning a degree in philosophy, he turned to cinema, starting as an assistant director. His first feature, Diva (1981), won four César Awards. He is also known for Betty Blue (1986), nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. He directed other films such as The Moon in the Gutter (1983) and IP5 (1992). A co-founder of the ARP, he also published his memoirs and a novel.
