About

Jan Theuninck, born June 7, 1954 in Zonnebeke, is a Belgian abstract painter and poet. Although a native Dutch speaker, he writes primarily in French and occasionally in English. His painting style lies between minimalism and monochrome expressionism, influenced by Ellsworth Kelly and Joan Miró. Politically engaged, his poetry addresses colonialism, pacifism, the Holocaust, and civil liberties. He uses the pen name ORC in homage to Raoul Wallenberg. His poem 'Tyne Cot' is inscribed on the façade of the Zonnebeke public library. In 2010, his painting 'West meets East' represented Belgium at the G20 World Artist Festival in Seoul.
