James Patterson is a prolific American author, born March 22, 1947, in Newburgh, New York. He earned a B.A. from Manhattan College and an M.A. from Vanderbilt University before becoming CEO of J. Walter Thompson North America. His first novel, The Thomas Berryman Number, won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel in 1977. He is best known for his bestselling series, including Alex Cross, Women's Murder Club, and Maximum Ride. Patterson has co-authored bestsellers with Bill Clinton and Dolly Parton, and holds a Guinness World Record for the most #1 New York Times bestsellers. Committed to promoting literacy, he founded the JIMMY Patterson children's imprint and supports libraries and teachers financially.
