About
Jacques Rivette (1928-2016) was a French film director, screenwriter, and critic, born in Rouen and died in Paris. Co-founder of La Gazette du Cinéma and editor-in-chief of Cahiers du cinéma, he was a key figure of the French New Wave. His debut feature, Paris Belongs to Us (1961), announced his taste for labyrinthine narratives. He made a mark with Celine and Julie Go Boating (1974) and La Belle Noiseuse (1991), which won the Grand Prix at Cannes. His often experimental work includes Out 1 (1971), running thirteen hours. His final film, 36 Views from the Pic Saint-Loup, was released in 2009.
