About
Jacques-Paul Migne, born on 25 October 1800 in Saint-Flour and died on 24 October 1875 in Paris, was a French Catholic priest, famous for his vast publishing enterprises. Ordained priest in 1824, he founded the journal L'Univers religieux in 1833, then in 1836 a Catholic printing house at Petit-Montrouge, employing over 300 workers. His major work is the Patrologia Latina (217-221 volumes, 1844-1855) and the Patrologia Graeca (162 volumes, 1857-1866), gathering the writings of the Church Fathers. He also published encyclopedias and theological collections. His establishment was destroyed by fire in 1868, and he died in 1875, leaving a considerable intellectual legacy.
