About
Indro Montanelli, born in Fucecchio, Tuscany, is one of the major figures of 20th-century Italian journalism. Graduated in law and political science, he began as a war correspondent in Ethiopia and during the Spanish Civil War. In 1938, he joined Corriere della Sera. Arrested by the Nazis in 1944 for his anti-fascism, he escaped the day before his execution. He founded Il Borghese in 1950 and Il Giornale in 1974. Author of the monumental Storia d'Italia, he was wounded by the Red Brigades in 1977. He died in Milan in 2001.
