About
Ian Lancaster Fleming was born on 28 May 1908 in Mayfair, London, and died on 12 August 1964 in Canterbury, Kent. After studying at Eton and Sandhurst, he worked as a journalist at Reuters, including as Moscow correspondent. During World War II, he served as assistant to the Director of Naval Intelligence and was involved in operations such as Operation Mincemeat. In 1953, he published Casino Royale, the first novel featuring secret agent James Bond, followed by eleven more novels and two short story collections. He also wrote the children's classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1964) and non-fiction works. His books had sold over 30 million copies by the time of his death.
