Hugh Laurie, born 11 June 1959 in Oxford, is a British actor, comedian, director, musician and writer. He studied at Eton and Cambridge, where he joined the Footlights and met Stephen Fry, with whom he formed a famous comedy duo. He became known on British television in series such as Blackadder and Jeeves and Wooster. He achieved international fame as Dr. Gregory House in the medical drama House (2004-2012), a role that earned him two Golden Globes. He has also published a novel, The Gun Seller, and released two blues albums.
