About

Honoré d'Urfé, Marquis de Valromey and Count of Châteauneuf, was a French writer of the early 17th century. A supporter of the Catholic League during the Wars of Religion, he was imprisoned and then exiled to Savoy, where he became chamberlain to the duke. He is best known for his pastoral novel L'Astrée (1607-1627), a vast work that achieved great success in Europe and influenced literature and drama. He also wrote moral letters and pastoral plays.
