About
'Hindu Proverb' is not a person but a collective attribution for proverbs, aphorisms, and folk wisdom from Hindu and Indian traditions, transmitted orally for centuries before being recorded in Sanskrit, Hindi, and other regional languages. Major textual sources include the Upanishads, the Panchatantra (c. 3rd century BCE), the Hitopadeśa, and the Maha Upanishad. A modern collection, 'Hindu Proverbs and Wisdom', was compiled by Narendra K. Sethi and published in 1962. The Subhāṣitasuradruma (compiled c. 1684–1745) is a major Sanskrit repository of Hindu proverbial sayings.
