About
Hilaire Belloc, born in France and naturalized British in 1902, was a prolific writer, author of over 150 books. He is best known for his comic children's verse, such as The Bad Child's Book of Beasts (1896) and Cautionary Tales for Children (1907), and for his travelogue The Path to Rome (1902). A devout Catholic, he was, with G.K. Chesterton, a principal exponent of Distributism, set out in The Servile State (1912). He also served as Liberal MP for Salford South from 1906 to 1910 and wrote a four-volume History of England (1925–1931) and historical biographies.
