Helen Hayes, born Helen Hayes Brown on October 10, 1900, in Washington, D.C., was an American actress of stage, film, and television. Known as the 'First Lady of the American Theatre,' she began her career on stage at age five and performed for nearly eighty years. She won two Academy Awards, two Tony Awards, an Emmy, and a Grammy, becoming one of the first performers to achieve EGOT status. She died on March 17, 1993, in Nyack, New York.
