Hector Malot, born May 20, 1830 in La Bouille and died July 17, 1907 in Fontenay-sous-Bois, was a French novelist. After studying law in Rouen and Paris, he devoted himself to literature. Author of more than 70 works, often serialized in the press, he is best known for his children's novel Sans Famille (1878), which achieved international success. He also worked as a literary and drama critic.
