About
Harry Harrison, born Henry Maxwell Dempsey on March 12, 1925, in Stamford, Connecticut, was an American science fiction author. After serving in the US Army Air Forces during World War II, he began as a comic book illustrator (EC Comics, Flash Gordon) before turning to writing. He is best known for the satirical Stainless Steel Rat series, the dystopian novel Make Room! Make Room! (1966) adapted into the film Soylent Green, and the West of Eden trilogy. He also edited science fiction magazines and served as the first president of World SF. He was named SFWA Grand Master in 2008. He died on August 15, 2012, in England.
