Henry Ross Perot, born June 27, 1930, in Texarkana, Texas, was an American businessman and politician. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he founded Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in 1962, which he sold to General Motors in 1984 for $2.5 billion. He later founded Perot Systems in 1988. He was known for his humanitarian efforts, including aiding POWs in Vietnam and a rescue mission in Iran. Running as an independent in the 1992 presidential election, he received 18.9% of the popular vote, one of the strongest showings for a third-party candidate. He founded the Reform Party in 1995 and ran again in 1996. He died on July 9, 2019, in Dallas.
