About

Guy Debord, born in Paris in 1931, is a major figure in the radical critique of consumer society. Founder and leading theoretician of the Situationist International (1957-1972), he developed concepts such as détournement, dérive, and psychogeography. His work 'The Society of the Spectacle' (1967) profoundly influenced the May 1968 uprisings. An experimental filmmaker, he created anti-conformist films, including 'Howls for Sade' (1952). He committed suicide in 1994.
