Georges Simenon, born in Liège in 1903, is one of the most prolific and widely read novelists of the 20th century. After starting as a journalist, he published numerous popular novels under pseudonyms before creating Inspector Maigret in 1931, hero of 75 novels and 28 short stories. He also wrote psychological novels, acclaimed by critics. Settled in the United States then Switzerland, he received many honors. His work, translated into over 50 languages, has sold hundreds of millions of copies.
