About
George Lucas is an American filmmaker born in Modesto, California. A graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, he co-founded American Zoetrope with Francis Ford Coppola. He gained recognition with American Graffiti (1973), then created the Star Wars saga (1977), which revolutionized science fiction cinema and won six Academy Awards. He also conceived the Indiana Jones franchise with Steven Spielberg. Founder of Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound, he pushed the boundaries of special effects. In 2012, he sold Lucasfilm to Disney. A philanthropist, he established the George Lucas Educational Foundation and funds the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.
