Gene Hackman, born Eugene Allen Hackman on January 30, 1930, in San Bernardino, California, and died c. February 18, 2025, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, was one of the most respected actors of his generation. Enlisting in the Marines at 16, he served as a field-radio operator in China, Japan, and Hawaii. After studying at the Pasadena Playhouse, he rose to fame with Bonnie and Clyde (1967), then won the Academy Award for Best Actor for The French Connection (1971) and Best Supporting Actor for Unforgiven (1992). He appeared in over 80 films, from Superman to The Royal Tenenbaums, before retiring in 2008. He also co-authored several historical novels.
