Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945) was the 32nd President of the United States, serving from 1933 until his death in 1945. Born into a wealthy family in Hyde Park, New York, he studied at Harvard and Columbia Law School. He entered politics as a New York state senator (1910) and later served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy under Wilson. Stricken with polio in 1921, he was left paralyzed from the waist down but continued his career. Governor of New York (1929-1932), he was elected president in 1932 during the Great Depression. His New Deal introduced major economic and social reforms. He led the nation through World War II and played a key role in founding the United Nations. He is the only U.S. president elected four times.
