Francis Veber is a French filmmaker and playwright, born on July 28, 1937 in Neuilly-sur-Seine. He is known for his successful comedies, often centered on misunderstandings and clumsy characters. He co-wrote the screenplay for La Cage aux folles (1978), nominated for an Oscar, and directed films such as Les Compères (1983) and Les Fugitifs (1986). His play Le Dîner de cons, premiered in 1993, ran for over 900 performances and was adapted into a film in 1998, winning three Césars, including Best Screenplay. Several of his works have been adapted in Hollywood, such as The Birdcage and Dinner for Schmucks. He was appointed Knight of the Legion of Honour in 1996.
