About

Francis Picabia, born in Paris in 1879, was a major figure of modern art. After Impressionist beginnings, he joined the Puteaux Group and Cubism, exhibiting at the 1913 Armory Show. He then turned to Dada, creating mechanomorphic works and founding the review 391. He explored Surrealism, Transparencies, and a kitsch figurative art. A prolific writer, he collaborated with Duchamp, Tzara, and Breton. He died in Paris in 1953.
